Choose None of the Above

September 27, 2000 | 1:53 am

It seems that the man who invented the internet, Vice President Go-Tongue, has a very interesting memory. He announced to union workers that he remember his parents singing the “union label” song to him as a lullaby. Touching and timely, ne? Go-T was 27 years old when that song came out…and now he claims he was just joking. BZZZZ! Thanks for playing, Go-T. Do not pass go..do not collect 200 dollars.

This “Stupidity in Politics” moment brought to you by Jei’s “None of the Above” campaign. “Tired of the Republicrats? Two party system getting you down? Vote for None of the Above! Pick a third party!”

Third Party Links:
Green Party: Ralph Nader for President
Libertarian Party: Harry Browne for President
Natural Law/Independent Party: John Hagelin for President

Kuraki Mai

September 24, 2000 | 1:55 am

A few Jpop quick notes. Finally got the new CD by flava of the year, Mai Kuraki. I’ll have to agree with the consensus..Kuraki wouldn’t be nearly as popular as she currently is without the groundwork paved by Hikki-chan last year. There’s almost nothing groundbreaking (or even mildly inspiring) on her CD that would make me think otherwise. I did find shades of something special on the title track, ‘Delicious Way’…someone in that studio knows how to produce a quality song. He must have been on vacation for the rest of the recording sessions. ^^;

Not to say Kuraki doesn’t have talent..she wrote or co-wrote all her own songs and seems to have a decent voice as well as the looks to pull things off. Maybe she needs someone else creating the music. It took Hikki a couple albums to get the right formula too. (Cubic U…Bleh)

Of course being the current flava means not having to prove you’re quality. (Well not until the second album…)

Jei on Tap Dancing

September 20, 2000 | 1:57 am

I’ve been around tap dancing in one form or another for pretty much all my life and my little grey cells gravitated towards this topic last night. Interested in seeing the original masters of tap? So am I…we’re talking the ladies and gentlemen who taught greats like Honi Coles and Sandman Simms. They’re long gone…so, we settle for the generations that came afterwards.

Think Fred Astaire is the end-all of tap dancers? Puhleeze! Of the Hollywood stars, Gene Kelly was a much more complete dancer and someone I’ve found to be a joy to see perform. Frankly, I’d put Sammy Davis Jr. up against Fred in the tap department any day. Gregory Hines? Definitely one of the greats, but his involvement in “White Nights” will taint him for all eternity. And as for the current youngblood, Savion Glover…the Tiger Woods of Tap, my ass.

The best of the best comes in three powerful words: The Nicholas Brothers. Fayard and Harold Nicholas have done dances on and off film that no one has even come close to duplicate. Gregory Hines has even acknowledged that simply no one can compare to these masters. Run, don’t walk, down to your video store to check out their films (Internet Movie Database List). “Stormy Weather” was the brothers’ and my personal favorite (The stairs..The stairs).

Must give mad props to the great Tap master, Henry LeTang. A two time Tony award winner, renowned instructor and teacher of such greats as the Hines brothers. He’s also a long time family friend and tap mentor. I always loved hanging out at his school in NYC where my Mum taught for him. He had a very cute daughter too… ^_-

Olympics + 15 hour time delay = Profit!

September 15, 2000 | 1:59 am

Olympic edition! Gotta attend the Olympics in some fashion before I turn 40…No Doubt! (Damn, that lighting of the torch was cool..delayed, but cool!)

Start making those Olympics bets with those who are internetly challenged. Finding out the results 15 hours before they’re broadcast on US could be a gold mine…take full advantage and make me proud!

Side note: When the torch was coming through the tunnel, was it just or me, or did anyone else think it looked like an Olympic joint?

Second Degree Subliminal Rodents

September 12, 2000 | 2:01 am

RATS! George Dubbaya and the No Sense Soldiers committed another error as they round the bases on their way to third. Dubbaya-chan…I know plenty of video folk who could do a much better job of subliminal advertising than whoever has that job with your No Sense Soldiers. Lemme know if you’re interested…I’m sure any of them can work “Major League Asshole” into a future commercial too.

Dubbaya and Go-Tongue (Gore) are so pathetically amusing…I’m glad they gave me such an easy path towards NOT voting for either of them.

Election Fraud Central

| 1:40 am

Speaking of elections…I went down to my local board of elections today and put in a change of address. At no time did they ask for proof of identify…any yahoo could have changed any of my election information with zero problem. Now that I think about it, I can’t remember ever being carded when I went to vote. Just sign next to your name and you get your ballot.

Future politicians, please take note. There’s bountiful opportunities for election fraud right at your fingertips, here in Summit County, Ohio.

My Gal, Ananda!

| 12:30 am

A big thumbs up to MTV’s Ananda on tonight’s MSNBC race relations special. Within another par for the course ‘today’s racial America’ show, someone with a strong sense of self and an accurate grip on reality schooled the old-guard racial politicia with a quickness. One can only hope they can look past their anger and mistrust to really see what she was saying. Well done, Ananda!

Zero Tolerance (aka Lazy Bastards)

September 11, 2000 | 2:04 am

When it comes to schools, a zero tolerance policy is equivalent to zero common sense. Since when has it been a crime to use an inhaler or give someone aspirin at school? Wouldn’t it make sense to take a knife away from your friend if she seemed suicidal…and not tell the school administration because you know the resulting publicity would really push her over the edge? One young man thought it made sense and did exactly that. The school suspended him for 4 months and the resulting publicity pushed the girl to actually attempt suicide.

Zero tolerance is laziness, pure and simple. Some school systems don’t want to have to use their minds, so everything gets thrown into the same package deal. Hello, McFly? This might all be well intended, but suspensions for aspirin in ridiculous. Anything firing in the little grey cells, eh?

Chrono Cross…Chrono Trigger…Chrono Crazy!

| 1:25 am

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the instant RPG classic Chrono Cross, a more than worth sequel to Chrono Trigger. Could someone please tell me where they keep the crack pipes at Square? Someone must have been smoking something when they made the decision not to release Chrono Trigger on the PSX here in the states. Aside from possible sales, there are certain parts of Cross’ story that mean so much more if you know what happened in Trigger. Yes, Cross stands on its own very, very well…but you’re missing additional satisfaction without the whole Chrono story.
