Chance meeting results in stupidity

September 8, 2000 | 2:06 am

During this week’s Millennium Summit, Big Willie Style and Fidel Castro had a chance encounter in which they shook hands and engaged in a little small talk. Now the anti-Castro brigade is crying foul..that shaking Castro’s hand is a sign of support for him and the White House staff is doing their regular song-n-dance…first saying there was no handshake, but later admitting there was one.

Anti-Castro people: Put your hatred for Castro aside for two seconds and realise that an unexpected meeting which results in a handshake and light banter is called common courtesy, not Fidelistic support. Go drink some herbal tea and calm the fuck down.

White House Staff: Grow a fucking backbone! There was no need to test the political breeze to see how this should be handled. Say there was a handshake and light banter and be done with it.

BattleBots vs Robot Wars

September 6, 2000 | 2:08 am

Had the misfortune of watching Comedy Central’s new BattleBots show…homemade robots battling each other while barely comedic commentary is made by two Joe’s who are probably thankful they have a TV show to add to their acting resume. It doesn’t deserve the South Park lead-in and to quote Cartman “Couldn’t entertain it’s way out of a nutsack”. I will qualify all of this…I am biased….

The show is just a milk-toast version of the superior UK show Robot Wars. Contact your local PBS station about buying the series…something that shouldn’t be too difficult if they already show BritComs. The host is Red Dwarf’s own Craig Charles (aka Dave Lister), a hero of mine ^_^. Six robots battle through devious obstacle courses, interesting challenges and each other…all while having to deal with the real stars of the show, the house robots. The house robots are worth the watching time by themselves. We’re talking vicious metal monsters with attitudes. Those R sum bad muthas. :)
