Don’t waste your vote: Crap is an acceptible alternative?

October 28, 2000 | 1:36 am

I love how the Go-Tongue people are pleading with the Nader supporters. “You’re going to put Bush in the White House with your vote”…”You’re throwing away your vote!”. Sounds very familiar…very reminiscent of the original Bush pleading with Perot supporters in ‘92. The battle cry of the desperate and the pathetic. Sorry, Mr. Gore. If you lose the presidential race, you have only yourself to blame. You couldn’t convince enough people you’re worthy to be president, so you’re blaming someone else for your political inadequacies. “You amuse me, Mr. Bon..err, Gore” ^_^

The only way you can ‘throw away’ your vote is if you don’t vote at all. I appreciate Mr. Nader’s stand to keep with the campaign instead of bowing out in order to help Gore along. A third party will never achieve true respectability in the general populous if they bow out to the political establishment every time they cry: “Mommy! He’s taking my votes!”. Standing firm might cause the less desirable of the two main candidates to be elected…it’s just something that’ll have to be sacrificed a few times in order make a third party a truly viable option for the general populous.

On a side note: If the polls are in a dead heat on election day, take the evening poll results with a grain a salt. They’ll jump the gun on those ‘close’ states to try to predict a winner before people go to bed. Just wake up the next morning and find out who’ll be evicting Slick Willie.

Alcohol promotes better ass-whooppings

Jackie Chan’s Legend of the Drunken Master (aka Drunken Master II) contains the most beauteous fight scenes I’ve ever had the chance to experience. They go beyond the everything that is expected…into a sort of dance that very few humans could hope to accomplish. Oh..and it’s very funny too. :) I’m going to have to track down the original version of DMII, if only to see the full version of Anita Mui’s performance…she done cracked me up. ^_^

Moment-o-Autumn

October 21, 2000 | 1:39 am

I’ve been enjoying the changing of the foliage guard…lovely shades of banana, maize, burgundy and wine fill the area ki along with the still impetuous greens that like to play it dangerously with the roulette wheel that is Northeast Ohio weather. Simply gorgeous…and getting more so every year. Been years since the area air has been infected with stench of rubber production…seems like Mother Nature is recovering very nicely and showing her high talents. The local economy should take a tip or two from her.

Ms. Vice President

| 12:57 am

On a quick movie note: The end of the year brilliant movie blitz has started! Go see The Contender post haste! A wonderful political thriller with excellent writing and a top-notch cast that dotted all the Is and crossed all the Ts that the script didn’t. Or to make my short blurb even more cheesy: " The contender delivers a knock-out punch!”" :D Anyone want to make a bet on whether or not that quote has been used by some critic? ^^

Take My Electoral Congress…Please!

October 16, 2000 | 1:41 am

When I was younger, I made up of list of things I wanted to do sometime during my lifetime. I was on a very political bend at the time, so I focused on the fallacy of the outdated electoral congress. The possibility that (even in a two man race) the candidate who won the popular vote could still lose the election because the other candidate won more electoral votes…I was disgusted that such faulty process of such an important nature was still in practice in this day and age. I vowed to figure out some way to have the process removed from the American scope…the popular vote is the only thing that should matter. Of course that was back when I had more respect for the executive branch and less knowledge about the workings of the presidential post…

I still think the electoral congress is worthless and even possibly dangerous. I always thought it would take someone losing the election, but actually winning the popular vote, for the people to be incensed enough to ‘force’ congress to remove the electoral congress…

…And it looks like we might be able to see such an event soon. The current election is so close that such a situation might take place. Picture it…Dubbaya wins the popular vote, while Go-Tongue wins the electoral vote and becomes president. I’d imagine more than just the republicans would be up in arms about that.

Mmmm…the election just got more interesting for me…^_^

Local Music Always Restores The Faith

October 12, 2000 | 1:44 am

Kudos to the people who put on Undercurrent 2000 in Cleveland last weekend…24 local bands for $10 in three spots all within two blocks…Omigoto!

I have to give hearty plug and mad props to Fenster out of Columbus, easily the best band I saw by a long shot. Sort of a cross between the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and the Barenaked Ladies. A fun group with some serious horns! They also do a version of Lionel Richie’s Hello that will absolutely blow you away…so much fun! If you find yourself in Ohio, be sure to check the paper for local bands to see if they’re playing. See them soon…I can’t imagine they’ll be just a local band for much longer. ^_^

Another band worth checking out is Akron’s Mialso. They have a hip hop/rock/Limp Bizkit-ish sound with a very charismatic lead man as well as a member dedicated strictly to samples and electronics (’bout time for a local band!). Bonus points to them for playing extra long to make up for the band that didn’t show up to play after them. I was so much into their groove that I forgot to drink my beer. ^_^

Full of nuts…and proud of it!

Secondary Kudos to the advertising agency that created the new ‘Presidential’ Snickers commercial.

Elephant: My father and I wear the same pants.
Donkey: I invented pants.

Need a Green Straw for my Mellow Yellow

October 8, 2000 | 1:46 am

While going to see Nurse Betty (see it soon before it leaves the theatres), I came across a grave injustice of the pseudo-political process. General Cinema is holding a “Straw Poll” at their concession stands all across America. You have two choices…for your drinking pleasure, you must select either a Gore straw or a Bush straw in order facilitate the quenching of your thirst.

Where’s my Green straw? Nader doesn’t warrant refreshment attention? Word has it that they didn’t want to give Ralph all those Goobers if he came up with 5% of the straw vote. It’s truly a sad day for America…

"What about me? What about Nader?"
(Wonder if anyone will get that joke…)

Vote for the Lady with the Sweetest Lips!

October 4, 2000 | 1:49 am

Two words: Jessica Alba (YUM! ^_^)
Any one else enjoy the new James Cameron TV show, Dark Angel? If you missed it, make sure to catch it when it makes its encore presentation (For all of you who watched the presidential debate live…). Looks like they have an engaging sci-fi show with an even more engaging star. I was hoping for something more meaty, but the story is interesting enough and Alba works her genetically-enhanced super heroine with gusto.
She also has the most luscious, smoochable lips I’ve ever seen…but I digress. ^_-

What? Why didn’t I watch the presidential debate?
I’m watching it right now on C-SPAN2. C’mon…they’re going re-run the damn thing more than TNT re-runs Pirates of Silicon Valley in the next two weeks. Didn’t see any reason to give my free time to the live confusion of two gentlemen I’m not planning on voting for anyway. So far Dark Angel looks to have been the better choice. ^_-
