Jabroni Hath Returned!

January 23, 2001 | 10:49 pm

"Finally…The Jei…has come back…to the Quickthoughts!" (A little something for The Rock fans out there). Poor Rock…it looks like Stone Cold has returned as the number one player in the WWF. Hopefully his movie career will go well. He has more options in the Entertainment industry open to him than any one else in the wrestling industry. Yes…Jei enjoys wrasslin’..deal with it!

JudoGirl is a Fashionable Yawara Site

January 23, 2001 | 2:43 am

On the ’bout freakin’ time’ tip of life: JudoGirl.Com is officially online. ^_^ It felt so good to finally to finish up the refit of my Yawara! website. It still needs a little diversity in ’side images’ here and there, but otherwise I’m very pleased with it. It’s also my first ‘Netscape 4 can kiss my ass’ site. The site was made almost strictly with cascading style sheets in mind, so IE4+ and Netscape 6 show the site as I intended. The site is almost exactly the same in Netscape 4…however the fonts don’t show up with their properly listed font styles.

Yes, I know how to fix it. I’m the king of making Netscape/IE compatible pages. I just don’t care to do so in this case. I know how it looks in both browsers and I’m content with both. With more that 85% of my viewers coming in with MSIE, I officially don’t give a shit anymore. Especially since Netscape 6 is out and shows it just fine. This isn’t a policy I hold on a professional level…but as long as I’m the client, I’m gon’ hav’ sum fun wit it.
^_^

Check it out anime and judo enthusiasts: JudoGirl.Com!

You take the good…You take the bad…

January 23, 2001 | 12:35 am

Damn! I love this time of the year! More meaty movies that you can shake a stick at. Here’s my ranking so far for the past couple months:

The Cream of the Crop

  1. Thirteen Days
  2. Finding Forrester
  3. Unbreakable
  4. Chocolat
  5. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
  6. I can’t recommend these movies highly enough. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon can be described in one word: Beautiful. It is a martial arts epic, but it is so much more than that. Two heartfelt love stories and powerful performances. I’ll never forger Michelle Yeoh’s face when…well you’ll just have to see. ^_^ It should be in your area now…run to see it!

Thirteen Days was simply shocking. I was stunned to find myself so tense and anxious while watching this movie…and I wasn’t the only one. How could a crowd who knew full well the result of the Cuban missile crisis be this tense? That’s the power of this movie. Brilliant performances all around…especially by the two Kennedy Bruthas. Where did they find these guys?…to look so much like the Kennedys and also be able to act that well. Sugoi! Best movie I’ve seen in a long time.

Will write about the great Finding Forrester later. It deserves special consideration. :)

Hideous, Repugnant Tripe

  1. Double Take
  2. Dungeons and Dragons
  3. Double Take could have been so much more. Orlando Jones was da Bomb when he was at MadTV and Eddie Griffin’s stand-up shows are funny as hell. But when you put them in a movie with an extremely convoluted and stupid script and a WAY over the top performance by Eddie, you get two hours of boredom and irritation. Folks..all the funny parts of the movie are in the commercials…ALL of them! I will give props to Orlando’s ‘Schlitz Malt Liquor’ rant…I’ve been cracking up at that since I saw the first movie trailer. ^_^

Nose Candy and Hand Helds

January 8, 2001 | 10:55 pm

How doth one snort ze cane? No, I’m not talking about whether you use a dollar bill, a straw or a particular nostril. I’m talking about Hollywood…how do they snort their cane? I remember a scene from Boogie Nights…the camera was positioned underneath a glass table as you watched Marky Mark & company snort up lines like they were going out of style. There was no way to fake it…those lines disappeared from the table.

What movie magic is used to simulate this effect? Is there a filter placed in the rolled bill or even in one’s nose that keeps the powder from entering your nose? Do they have a special powder that actually is snorted into the nose, but is not harmful? Or in certain stars’ cases, who do you get to switch things around so it’s your own cane? So lucky…getting to mix business with pleasure outside of your trailer….^o^

Why start off with that subject? It stuck in my mind after seeing some kids do a few lines in the movie Traffic. Well written, well acted, blah, blah, yadda, yadda. ^^ While it had everything that could make it a top notch film, I don’t seem to be able to express that much enthusiasm about it. Aside from the ever lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones (now Douglas), the most enjoyable parts contained the wonderfully amusing chemistry between FBI agents Don Cheadle and Luis Guzman.

This movie will probably cause another ‘Pulp Fiction effect’. Where the person who gets nominated for Best Supporting Actor made more of an impact on the film than the person who gets nominated for Best Actor (Sam Jackson wuz robbed!). This time the effect will be cast upon the excellent performance by Benicio Del Toro. He was on screen for as much time if not more than Michael Douglas, but because he’s not Mike, he ends up being just a supporting actor. Sorry Mike…your performance was good, but not Academy Award worthy. You got Catherine last year…you don’t deserve anything else nice for a while. ;)

This movie also makes a lot of use of hand held digital cameras. Am I the only one who gets a little woozy when they stay in digital mode for too long? I thought maybe it was something else when I first experienced it while watching Bamboozled. But after Traffic…those fast moving scenes didn’t do much for popcorn digestion. ^^

A New Year’s Reflection (sans Vomit)

January 3, 2001 | 10:58 pm

Did everybody have a good holiday season? I successfully managed to not repeat last New Year’s (non-alcoholic) vomiting out of everything contained in my digestional tract. There’s nothing like getting stomach acid near your sinuses, let me tell ya. However, it still tasted better than Iron City Beer! ^_^

Christmas is strange these days. These are days between your childhood and your child’s childhood. The days where the excitement of waiting for Christmas morning no longer exists. No reason to get up at 3am in the morning to rip open your present that contains the Battlestar Galactica ships that you must have right now Now NOW! ^o^ The magic is laying in wait for my own kids. "You had your allotment of Christmas magic. The rest is laying dormant in your sperm" ;)

Best quote of the week…from an Murphy Brown re-run:
“…when he called Pat Buchanan the most enlightened person since Moses.” ^_^

More next quickthought…I need more Advil. *_*
