Welcome to the Hotel Inadequate

April 18, 2001 | 2:43 am

New York Trip: The Hotel
I was fortunate enough to grab a room at the Edison Hotel which is in the Broadway district and only a couple blocks away from Times Square. However, ‘fortunate’ is certainly not a word I would associate with these bastages now. The hotel is stuck in a time warp that it has no desire to escape from…an early 20th century art deco style (to the hilt!) hotel that used to be the shit. These days the employees might be dressed like the 1920s, but their attitudes are certainly a product of today. I would have taken back my tip to the bell boy (punk-ass) if I had the option.

All the conveniences that you’d find at a regular hotel (even a cheap-ass Motel 6) are missing from this place. Want ice? There’s no ice machine on the floor. Call down to the desk…get a huffpuff from the person about it…some bellboy brings it up and demands money for it right at the door. Want some pop or juice at an odd hour? Better hit the streets…no such creature at this hotel at 1am. How about room service? Instead of a rolling a table full of food into your room, you’re given a box of food…but only after you pay and only at the door since they can’t bother to come in.

With all the modern hotels in the area, there’s no reason to stay at the Hotel Edison. This ‘The Shit’ hotel is now just shit!

Josie and the Product Placement

| 12:11 am

I have to give a plug for the new Josie and Pussycats movie. This is the type of movie where you either get it or you don’t. I found it to be a wonderful surprise…very amusing and smart, especially for those who remember the cartoon. This movie takes product placement to an obnoxiously fun level that I doubt any future movie will have the balls to imitate. The inside of a plane that looks like a Target Tide commercial….Josie’s room with the Revlon carpet and windows. It feeds so well into this parody that I couldn’t help but smile and laugh every time they upped the product ante.

The music isn’t bad either. It was nice to see that the girls actually got some training for the gig. It was also great to see that "Behind the Music" is part of a whole evil corporate plan. (You’ll see ^_-). Check this movie out before it disappears from the theatres!

Ehh? A Little Louder There, Sonny!

April 3, 2001 | 10:04 pm

Throwing out a short one this time…will get to my lengthy report on last week’s trip to New York City in a few days. Right now, I’m in a continual state of irritation. Folks…a head cold and two plane flights mix as well as the Nation of Islam and the 700 Club. On my way back home, I spent most of the first plane flight and all of the second in states ranging from discomfort to true agony. We’re talking ‘wishing you were 7 years old so you could scream like a child’ pain. My head cold sent my ear popping ability into hiding and the airplane treated me like I was its bitch.

I tried all the cures that I knew of to no avail. There’s nothing like walking around with the feeling that you have cotton permanently stuffed in your ears….or nodding your head back and forth and actually feeling the muffledness travel from ear to ear. To quote Bernie Mac: “This is a real Somamabitch!” Looks like it’s off to the ear doctor I go. :P
