Buffalo Driving: A Way of Life
July 14, 2001 | 9:35 pmFinally recovered from my yearly trip to Southern California for ze Anime Expo, this time in Long Beach. This time I decided to actually check out the area, so I rented a car (Alamo gave me a brand new car with 2 miles on it ^_^) and dove feet first into the joy that is the LA highway system.
I think it should be a national requirement that everyone should learn how to drive out in LA. Know how you’re supposed to be a defensive driver and not aggressive? You can’t be only defensive and successfully drive out there. You have to have some aggressive driving skills for the LA highway system, period. There’s just sometimes where you’re going to have to put your foot up someone’s ass in order to get into the next lane.
Think I’m exaggerating? Just go out there! My personal favorite was having to cross four lanes in a quarter of a mile during fast, yet packed, semi-rush hour traffic in order to get to my exit. By the time I made it to the exit, I was completely barefoot and two fellow drivers had ‘Nike’ imprinted in their colons. ;)
When I got back to good old NEOhio, I damn near fell into a trance…no excitement, everyone’s asses too far way to kick…just the same old construction infested highways. Bleh. :P
