Cloning: Let Ignorance Thrive!
August 21, 2001 | 10:42 pmWatching the national hullabaloo about cloning bugs me to no end. Waves and waves of so-called important people ranting and raving about something they know absolutely nothing about. (So what else is new, ne?) But to take their irrational hollywood/tv movie of the week fears and let that guide them to this cause of action…pisses me off to no end.
Of course, the cloning of complete humans is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly. There’s plenty of issues that should be discussed and worked out before that’s even attempted. However, there’s plenty of smaller applications of cloning that could work wonders for everyone. Wouldn’t you want to be able to clone another liver if yours began to fail? No waiting in line for a donor! Hell, it could even be sponsored by Seagrams or Budweiser. Scientists already clone skin….we’re on our way to bigger and better things. Please don’t let your irrational fears throw a blanket ban over everything.
And don’t think for a second that the US banning it is going to stop it from happening elsewhere. Even with pressure from the US, there’ll be some country, somewhere that will allow it. And you’ll be damn sure that some rich American will go there if he or she needs a new internal organ…
“We shouldn’t play God!”
Reality check: We already do and have done so for a long time now…
Reality check (Alternate version): There is no god. We’re on our own. Let’s get to work.
Reality check (Alternate version 2): We are all god…all part of the higher consciousness/energy level that is…creation is in our nature and experience. We’ll just be re-creating ourselves on a more physical plane for a change.
