Playing Catch Up With Yourself

December 1, 2002 | 6:16 am

Sweet Jesus, Joseph and Spicoli…it really has been over two months since I’ve written anything. I must rectify that…start writing every other day. I owe it not only to myself, family and friends, but to the world itself! Lord knows my bitching about lame ass Kool-Aid commercials must have had positive repercussions in somewhere in the world…

Hey, Mr. Blue Sky…Wake The Fuck Up!

Let me paint a sugary picture: You pull up to the fast food drive-thru to pick up your heart attack special. The drive-thru person hands you your drink. You notice the drink has a number of drops of your favorite sugar-swill running down the sides. What do you do?

Most people just ignore it. Or grumble a little under their breath. Or lick the juice off the sides of the container. I admit to being guilty of all three at different times in my life. But as of late, I have this overwhelming urge to say something. But everything that comes to mind the moment before impact usually runs along the lines of “You wanna do something about this drippin’ shit?” or “Do your fucking job and wipe that shit off!”

Nothing more tame and proper. Always something very caustic (and frankly well deserved). And yet I can never bring myself to say it. In part my natural courtesy takes control. No point in causing a scene over something so trivial. Also, the person usually giving you the drink is some teenager or young adult…someone already working too hard for too little money and certainly not willing to accept shit, even if they’re in the wrong.

So, if you come across the same situation, please give a good “Wipe that shit off!” for your old friend Jei. In the meanwhile, he’ll be seeing a specialist for this particular malady. He’ll eventually get the “Fuck” out. ^^

Happiness is…a Russel Crowe-free Year!

Another cinema year has come and gone…and once again I’ve spent way too much money on theatrical films. Didn’t see as many independent films this year as I wanted, but stayed away from a number of true dogs like Pluto Nash and Master of Disguise. It still surmounted to another overall enjoyable year…Potter and LotR saw to that. ^_^ And yes, that’s an anime film at the top of the list there…It’s such a wonderfully magical film that you should go out of your way to see it! (Post Haste!) Hopefully it’ll get nominated for some Oscars and then the rest of the potato-fields will actually take notice of it.

So here lies the best of the best….

Check B-4 You Kwan Yo Self!

Time to revisit one of my favorite holiday time topics: Kwanzaa Cards! Listen folks…please, Please, PLEASE ask a person whether or not celebrate they celebrate Kwanzaa or not before sending a card. Peep this: Most black people in America *DON’T* celebrate Kwanzaa. They have nothing to do with it, have never even been to a ceremony, and ain’t joining up anytime soon.

But the holiday has been plugged so well in the media that it’s listed right up their with Christmas and Hanukkah now. @_@ And so it happens…black folk all around the country get Kwanzaa cards from their co-workers and other well meaning, but ignorant folk. And you know what they do? They shake their heads, chuckle and/or laugh, and throw that shit in the trash.

Save yourself some money (and the people you’re going to send them to, some paper cuts) and please ask first.
