W jumped up…

September 30, 2004 | 11:02 pm

…and got beat down! At least during two-thirds of the debate. I’ve never seen W so defensive, so annoyed, so sigh-ful and stammering. Made me wonder if the W that took part in the Gore debates was off pounding down a few at an extended happy hour.

It’s so funny listening to Fox News right afterwards…even they couldn’t spin away all of W’s poor job…even one of them mentioned that Kerry looked like the Commander in Chief tonight.

Good Job, JK…keep it up!
(And don’t let up on W on the later half of the next debate!)

Don’t drudge a man by the color of his skin…

September 29, 2004 | 7:43 am

…but by the flavor of the tanning oil used!

Booyah! Want a prime example of someone on the right trying to use anything to show Kerry in a bad light? Enter Drudge’s report on how Johnny K’s ‘new’ overnight tan. Yes, Matt…a change in the color of his skin is on the same reporting level as the earthquake in California or the ongoing tragedy that is post-hurricane Haitian suffering…

(Not his first try for sure…back in the day there were articles on JK’s botoxing to get rid of the wrinkles in his forehead…)

Triflin’ ass…..

200 monkeys at 200 workstations…

September 23, 2004 | 7:55 pm

…must have taken a break during a certain part of the remastering of the Star Wars saga on DVD. It’s been 27 years since it’s creation…you’re telling me that in all that time, no one has been able to figure out how to get rid of the boxes around the Tie Fighters? I’m talking during the escape from the Deathstar. I’ve cringed everytime I’ve seen them on the VHS versions…I was so looking forward to a truely pristine version. Bzzzzzz!

Fer cryin’ out! Even if the fighters are moving too fast for even today’s computers to compensate (which I’m still having a hard time believing), then just do a little re-filming/altering. They added a wack Jabba…they swapped Emperors and Anakins. Damn it, who the hell was slackin off when the Deathstar escape was processed? @_@

(Side Note: Love that my woofer generate more bass when the Millenium Falcon flies by than when the DeathStar goes kaput)

Next up to bat, Jehovah!

September 22, 2004 | 11:30 pm

Everyone should be very afraid! The big guy upstairs is getting back to his old school nature. While throwing down fire and brimstone can be so passe these days, there are other instruments that can be of use. Nothing like getting wacked to death by the old Sunday morning standby. One wonders what the lady had been keeping out of the confessional for the past 70s years…

The people of Rio should be on alert too…lord know when the Corcovado Christ will swoop down and take care of business…
(Lets just hope he waits until after Carinval…)

…And a very happy wife at home!

September 21, 2004 | 7:06 pm

Anyone else find the scales just a little off balance in the world of sex related commercials on TV? The number of ‘male enhancement’ commercials is bordering on the excessive. How many ways can they come up with describing an erection and staying within ’60s television standards?

Pill Triple Y gives old Gus a skip in his step, increased confidence, envy from his neighbors, that promotion at work, a stronger throwing arm, juice that tastes like Ms. Butterworths, over-bushy eyebrows, the ability to calculate Pi to a million places and jump Yao Ming in a single bound, and a deliriously happy wife that meets him at the door wearing nothing but tea, crumpets and saran wrap…

We get tripe like that on almost all channels, but then condom commercials are delegated to MTV and a few other brave channels. C’mon people! Both increase the overall fucking pleasure principle…time to give them equal billing! TROJAN MAAANNN!

Fly on the Wall: About Ms. 3000

September 18, 2004 | 5:26 pm

Oye Oye! The latest meeting of the Angela Bassett Appreciation Society has now come to order!

First order of business: Sweet Angela’s Oscar worthy performance in the newly released Mr. 3000! I’m sure we can all agree that even in such light supporting role, Angela’s performance will be recognized for what it was and always is: a tour de force beyond measure and a shapely one at that!

Yes, Brother Silky has the floor:

Far be it for me to rain on my brethern’s parade, but wuz we all watching the same film? I’ve seen more meaty roles used to pick the dog hair off of my shag carpet! While Sista A was fine az wine az usual, there’s no talent in world that could change that role from what it is….straight booty. Now, can we talk about that sweet ass performance of hers in Vampire in Brooklyn?

Silky, I’m so disappointed in you. You lost the faith, brutha.
Somebody please take this two-tone, Members Only jacket wearin’ muthaphuka outside and treat him like Joe Jackson treated Michael.

It’s a jungle, sometimes it makes me wonder…

September 15, 2004 | 8:01 am

It has begun! Congratulations to Grandmaster Flash and Furious Five for becoming the first Hip Hop group to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Outstanding!

I was fully expecting Run DMC to be the first Hip Hop group to be added, but it looks like those Rock historians really are paying attention to all branches of growth from the Rock tree. Actually, I was surprised the Sugar Hill Gang didn’t get nominated first…but Flash did have more an lasting effect on those suckas who came afterwards.

The others nominees: U2, Randy Newman, The O’Jays, The Pretenders, Buddy Guy, Wanda Jackson, the J. Geils Band, Conway Twitty and Percy Sledge, The Sex Pistols, the Stooges, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Gram Parsons.

The only obvious slam junk to me is U2. Gimme the O’Jays and Buddy Guy too…and make history by letting Flash in! Just leave the Sex Pistols out one more year…^_^

In future, its obvious that Run DMC, LL Cool J and Public Enemy will get inducted. The big question: Will N.W.A. get inducted on their first attempt? :D

Just please…dear Buddah…under no circumstances let Kid Rock induct Flash. But if it must be, have Melle Mel pimpslap him as they come on stage!

In the end, it all sorts out…

September 11, 2004 | 1:29 pm

Those who fought are still remembered…

The pentagon has been repaired…

Ground has been broken for Freedom Tower…

And those who left in such a tragic manner are enjoying the higher plane…or are back down here and enjoying being kids again…
(Can’t link to the afterlife, but take my word on it…^_^)

Excuse me for this comment: Anyone else think the Freedom Tower looks like it could transform in a robot? Take the pointy sword at the top of the skyscraper and FreeTo Gundam is ready to rumble!

Is 1/4 of an artist really enough?

September 8, 2004 | 11:12 am

My man Junior Kimbrough once sang, “I’m gettin’ old…can’t do the things I used to”. I’m starting to feel that way about the vast majority of popular music today. I used to be able to find something…even of a miniscule nature…to enjoy in “today’s hits”. Even if the only thing redeemable was just a good thumpin’ beat, I could at least feel my body naturally reacting to it. But even that has started to fade away…

I was persuaded to check out the latest MTV video music awards for a certain performance (which I’ll get into later)…and then it happened. A performance by Lil’ John (Mr. Skeet Skeet Skeet himself), Fat Joe, and about 10 other posse members (names were forgotten before they even stepped on stage). And guess what…I felt nothing. Wait…that’s not completely true…I felt tired. :) There was nothing there…I even paused to make sure I was hearing the beat correctly. Thump Thump Thump. It was there…it was good. My body still wasn’t feelin’ it.

Then I realized the problem…there were too many partial artists on stage…and my musical nature rebelled. :) I’ve never been a fan of the “X featuring Y, Z and @” method, especially with its overblown nature that’s present today. I understand from a marketing standpoint it’s like butta. But from a quality standpoint, you feel like you’re getting cheated. You’re not listening to a band…you’re listening to, at best, 1/2 an artist. Someone whose talents are so weak they need to be piggybacked into the limelight.

We used to joke that Ja Rule was only 1/2 or 1/3 of an artist…couldn’t remember the last I heard him in a solo hit. Sadly, Lil John makes Ja Rule look like Marvin Gaye. He’s rating so damn low that they don’t even use those fractions on the stock market ticker. So damn tiring listening to that tripe. “To the window…to the wall”. To clock where I’m watching your 15 minutes of fame tick away…
(See…these artists are so depressing, I can’t even link to them…^_^)

In the end, I was brought some true enjoyment: A “Higher Ground” jam session with Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and Stevie Wonder. There was no feeling of being cheated. There was only the feeling that you were watching something rare and special and hot! One Hall of Famer with two possible Hall of Famers, all masters of one form of another…throwing down like you know they should. No fractions there. :)

(Side Note: Lenny Lenny Lenny…the “Road Warrior” look ain’t for you, baby. Go back to that straight “James Brown” hair you’re sporting on the commercials.)

Just in time for biscuits…

September 6, 2004 | 12:43 am

Is this a bad dream? Was no one paying attention?
Haven’t there been numerous people who wondered (both jokingly and not) if Bin Laden would be brought out in chains as election time closed in? Well…almost exactly two months to go. And guess who’s back on the radar? Hmm…not important enough to be mentioned in GW’s speech (or for months at a time, actually)…but still enemy #1, eh?

Anyone want to take bets on how close to the most important debate it’ll be when Bin Liddy gets the big cuff?
