Sometimes the clothes do not make the Cheney

January 29, 2005 | 10:20 am

At the recent rememberance of Holocaust victims on the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, Vice President Cheney really stood out in the crowd:

Dick Cheney at Auschwitz

Lil’ dicky was warmly busted out in an Olive parka, big brown stompin’ boots and a knit ski cap, while the rest of the crowd sported the traditional ‘mourning’ black…a safe bet even with the new fashion upon us.

To quote Robin Givhan of the Washington Post, “the vice president looked like an awkward boy amid the well-dressed adults”.

BZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Attention to the media…take such juvenile nit-picking, put it back in your toy box and concentrate on your homework. Little bullshit stories like this just help your opponents point to how unobjective you can be. I’m not a fan of this man by any stretch of the imagination, and even I think your efforts here are being wasted…

Gee…an old man with a history of heart attacks decides to go against tradition (which he knows perfectly well) and keep himself warm. Good for him! Nothing disrespectful about it. Here’s hoping his office brushes it off and pays it no mind.

Now, if he showed up with a Jheri curl…that would have been disrespectful…

Jay’s Oscar Musings (aka Aviator ain’t that damn good)

January 26, 2005 | 7:20 pm

This year’s Oscar nominees are not that big of a surprise, but I need to deal with the immense lack of judgement displayed by these Yahoos. Triflin’ Aviator lovin’ asses…

(All of this is written without having seen Million Dollar Baby…yes, I don’t live in a real city. I’ll make it a given that all of its nominations deserve to be there for now…)

Update (1/29/05): Saw Million Dollar Baby last night. It is everything people have been saying about it. Fantastic Movie. Easily 4 stars.

Best Picture Snub: Hotel Rwanda
(Such a powerful, important movie ignored over the overrated Aviator…bleh!)

Best Actor Snub: Paul Giamatti (in Sideways)
(The man still gets no respect! I’d take him over Leonardo and Depp)

Best Animated Film: The Polar Express
(C’mon…nominate Shark’s Tale? Are they high?)

Best Visual Effects: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
(There’s was nothing that looked remotely as cool this movie this year…)

Overall Snubs: No big nominations for Baadasssss! or Kinsey. (Tragedy!)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind probably should seen some best picture action too….

I got cut by the Man! (aka Hernia Splendor)

January 23, 2005 | 3:51 pm

I was psyched…I was ready. My tension was up and I was focusing on the event. I’d never done anything like this before, so I tried to keep my remaining nervousness down to a minimum. It was time to meet up with Da Man…

Everyone called him MD and for this moment in time, he had become my nemesis. He had given me the time and place and demanded I be there. I knew I had to go…it couldn’t be put off any longer. Our eyes met…and I was ready. Time to put shit in check!

Then suddenly, his lackey injected me with some substance ‘to help you relax’. Bastard! Before I knew it, I was dancing in the happy, but uncertain land of unconsciouness. I enjoyed playing No-Limit Texas Crickets with the Chersire Cat, Bu Bu Boo the Unwieldy and Dick “Don’t Touch My Nutz” Cavett. We all drank too much Bloodwine and sang the songs we all like to sing, while waiting for our Woo-Hoo pudding to cool off. Tra-la-la…la-la…Wheee….

It was during this time that MD cut me…cut me with something. Coulda been a scapel…coulda been a recently broken bottle of Michelob Dark…coulda been a really funky, infected, sharp-ass fingernail. I truely would never know…or why my cut always smelled of eldeberries…

When I woke up, my hernia surgery was complete and I was in varying levels of pain… :P

While I thank the Doc for doing what looks to be a stellar job, I gots some things I need to be saying for saying and needings sake…ya dig?

1) I actually woke up still in the operating room! I made jokes about that beforehand…didn’t actually think it would happen. Fortunately, it was at the every end when they were already done and about to roll me back downsairs.

While I admire the anesthesiologist’s timing skills, I was under the impression that I would wake up back where I started. Better re-calculate your drip amount, son. You’re going to end hearing someone screaming from the O.R. one of these days.

2) I need the 411! If someone is going to slice me open and leave something inside of me for safe keeping, I need to hear the important after-surgery info myself.

I perfectly understand why you give such info to the loved one first…I’m supposed to still be out cold. But that won’t be for long, and as the patient, I’d need to hear the skinny too. Spicoli man…you didn’t even show up afterwards to see how I was. Your overpaid ass ain’t getting no tip!

3) My apologies to nurse who carted my big ass upstairs. She was putting all her might into it…and we were still going slow. Sorry Ma’am…Harveys are built big like that. ^^ I’ll be happy to get you membership to Bally’s or something…

Additional: Extra apology to the same Nightingale for not complaining much while unknotting the strings of my gown. (I over did it…took her a good two minutes…^^;;; )

I’ll save my post-surgery revelations until I’ve had enough time to recover and reflect on how massively irritating, painful and disconcerting all this has been.

(And enough time to get rid of my new Vicodin/Granola addiction…)

Don’t forget Costa Rica…

January 21, 2005 | 6:49 am

More often than not, when horrible things happen on a large scale, similar smaller things get pushed by the wayside…

While everyone has been ultra-concerned about the tsunami victims, Costa Rica was hit with floods that have left many thousands of people homeless and have wiped out entire communities…

Costa Rican Floods

I have to agree…considering how similar this was to what’s happening in SE Asia, why did I have to hear about it many days later from the blogs?

Lack of size doesn’t make it any less important…here’s my adding to the list to get the word out…

Donations are being taken by the Red Cross and the Costa Rican Red Cross.

Everything Bush Knows He Learned…5 Minutes Ago?

January 14, 2005 | 8:25 pm

A quote from GW on the unfortunate comments he made during the Iraq War (”Bring ‘em on” and the like):

“Sometimes, words have consequences you don’t intend them to mean”

Dear Lord…

Common sense that comes to most children at some point has evaded our commander-in-chief until now. Our missle codes are in the hands of a turnip….

Would someone please contact the Surgeon General?
I’m taking bets on how many crayons are stuck up his nose…

Hardee’s Thickburger Campaign Shows Off Unexpected Talents

January 11, 2005 | 11:12 am

Many people thought Hardee’s insane with their new 2 minutes-till-heartattack burger.

Still, you gotta give ‘em credit for inventive marketing…hitting their target consumer right in the…mouth… ^^

*Cough*

Color me Ba…err…Pleased

January 9, 2005 | 3:51 pm

I have to admit…America has surprised me. I already had the mindset that the US really wouldn’t care much about the tsunami victims.

They’re half a world way. They’re not true “first-world” countries like us. Hell, not only are none of the countries Christian, but the one that lost the most people is a Muslim nation. Tens of thousands of people have died in earthquakes (or hundreds of thousands have died due to genocide or starvation) before and no one seemed to give a damn. Add in the fact that the US has always had a larger than average self-centric attitude, and I have to admit that I didn’t expect much. Boy was I wrong…

The corporations are donating money at levels that rival 9/11. The public donations are building up so much that they’ll probably overtake what the government has vowed to send. Organizations like the American Red Cross have received more donations since the disaster than they had all last year. Even the company I work for offered to match 100% of any employee’s donation. It’s good to see…

(I’ll refrain from mentioning how the government got shamed into uping their amount of help…or how the companies will take advantage of their donations to whip more industry into the effected areas…Oh wait…)

And on the flip side, there’s even surprise from the ravaged areas. Thailand recently declined Japan’s offer of $20 million in tsunami aid, stating that they’ve already got the situation in hand and that the money would be better sent to the areas that have more of a need. They could have taken the money for themselves and no one would have been the wiser. Damn…it keeps getting better. :)

Keep it up folks! Now if someone would just start paying attention to our own tsunami danger…

One ain’t always the loneliest number…

January 6, 2005 | 10:22 pm

I’d like to give a big congratulations to Senator John Edwards! It’s very rare (maybe even unheard of) for someone who didn’t actually get any popular votes for president to get electoral votes…

But that’s exactly what happened!

The final tally:

George Bush: 286
John Kerry: 251
John Edwards: 1

Since electors don’t actually have to follow the rules and can vote whomever they want, before the next election, I think certain like-minded individuals should push for a man who has long deserved to be in a position of true power. A man who could affect major change throughout the world. A man funny enough to give the electors another reason to skirt their civic duty….

Nipsey Russell for President!
Nipsey Russell in 2008!
(Circle gets the square!)
