Inferiority is a game you don’t have to play

February 24, 2008 | 3:03 pm

NPR’s Michele Norris repeated a fabulous quote on today’s Meet The Press:

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt

Very obvious…sometimes forgotten…undeniably true…

Take Two Steps Back and Observe

June 23, 2005 | 10:16 am

Hmm…maybe I should create a new category for quotes. Been running into a number of them recently that seem to hit the target with insane precision…a rarity for a sceptic like myself…

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.

But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

(Buddha, Date Unknown)

Yep…right up my alley ^_^
Analysis and reason go a long way…unfortunately not with everyone :(

One good quote deserves a better counterpoint

April 10, 2005 | 1:37 pm

A recently received email produced this signature:

I shall pass through this world, but once.
Any good therefore that I can do, or any
kindness that I can show to any human being,
let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it,
for I shall never pass this way again.

(I’d love to attribute the quote to someone…but everyone from William Penn to Mahatma Gandhi to Stephan Grellet seems to claim it)

The quote was rather inspiring…but perhaps not in the direction that was intended…

I shall pass through this world, again and again.
I am capable of unique thought and critical thinking.
Yet anything that goes against the grain of my
personal social network, I am unwilling, uncomfortable
and unable to question. I am status quo. Let me
not defer nor forget it, for I shall always walk the same road.
